Adelle Foods

‘Your Culinary Haven, the Home of Heavenly Hummus’

ABOUT US

Adelle Foods is a BIPOC women-owned business founded in 2020. The origins of Adelle Foods can be traced to the Oromia region in Ethiopia -- in the small, agricultural village of Adelle, where our close-knit family farmed the land and cultivated a distinctive style of cooking.

Our family restaurant on the south side of Minneapolis allowed us to share our Oromo culture through distinctly spiced food. We currently sell kurayba cookies and hummus at farmer's markets in the Twin Cities area.

Signature Hummus Adelle makes hummus the way our family has traditionally served it for years. A blend of chickpeas, creamy tahini, garlic, citrusy lemon, extra virgin olive oil, and a touch of toasted cumin. Our Signature Hummus is our bold take at the classic, flavorful, creamy dip and spread, as it was intended to be enjoyed.

WHERE WE STARTED

The origins of Adelle foods can be traced to the Oromia region of Ethiopia--in the small, agricultural village of Adelle, where our close-knit family farmed the land and cultivated a distinctive style of cooking. In the 1980s, the aftermath of the Red Terror and continued political oppression brought our Adelle family to the Twin Cities where we forged a new life.We feel pride that our family took part in establishing the Twin Cities as a safe harbor for Oromos, which is affectionately now known as Little Oromia.

WHERE WE ARE NOW

Throughout the years we have been able to grow with the community, attending school, raising our children, and opening our own businesses. Adelle Foods was an idea that came out of the aspiration of wanting to recreate that circular nature of impact as business owners. We want to be able to produce our favorite foods and support women locally and globally on a larger scale, and retail distribution of Adelle Food products will enable us to have a greater impact in our social mission.

In 1985, The Winona Daily News penned the story of our CEO travels to the United States with her sister. Soon after their arrival in the United States, they were able to relocate their two parents and eight siblings, reuniting them as a whole family for the first time in years.
